ASK HONDA
CAN I RIDE A MOTORBIKE ON A CAR LICENCE?

If you have a car driver’s licence in the UK then you can ride a moped, which is up to 50cc, without L plates.
You can also do so without taking a moped test, depending on when you passed your car driving test. There’s more information about CBT motorcycle and moped training on the UK government’s website.
I can drive a car so do I need an extra qualification to ride a motorbike?
If you want to ride anything bigger than a 50cc engine, then you’ll need to pass your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT), a one-day course that will introduce you to motorcycling and will teach you riding skills.
You’ll be legally able to ride up to a 125cc motorbike, with L plates, on a public road after you complete your CBT. If you want to ride a bigger motorcycle after that, then there are other tests you’ll need to complete.
Get in touch with your nearest Honda Approved School of Motoring today to book your CBT and kickstart your motorcycling journey.
