Function above all else
Developed by our Japanese engineers by first visiting six cities across Europe, the Honda e takes on the unique challenges driving on today’s roads presents. London, for its tight busy streets. Paris, for its small on-street parking spaces and the hectic Boulevard Périphérique. Frankfurt, for its wide, fast road network. Amsterdam, with its people-packed cobbled streets. Copenhagen, with its extensive pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure. And lastly, Oslo, for its already well-established EV charging network. The Honda e is the electric city car you’ve been waiting for.
Function comes before form. Fussy detailing is out, full stop. That’s because the Honda e’s stand-out shape, both retro yet futuristic, doesn’t need fripperies. We think it’s beautiful. Don’t you?
The symmetrical ‘eyelike’ LED headlights and matching rear lights give it character. And the designers have used technology to make the design better. Front door handles? Exposed only when needed. Safety tech? All cleverly hidden behind the front black panel.
“It’s a clean car,” says the leader of the Honda e project, Kohei Hitomi. “It should have a clean design to match.”
Inside, the functional cabin is modern and lounge-like, with a welcoming feel. The seat upholstery reminds you of sofas. LED downlighters are built into the roof.
Electric car convenience is central to the Honda e’s design. Easily accessible in the middle of the bonnet is its gloss black charging port. When connected, LED indicators glow with the car’s charge status. You can see at a glance if it’s charged up and ready to drive away. It integrates seamlessly into your life.
making city life easy
The Honda e uses technology to make things better. We haven’t simply created an electric car, we have made a better car, full stop. Its features will transform your experience.
As standard, the high-tech Honda e doesn’t have any door mirrors. Instead, it has cameras, beaming high-resolution video feeds into 6.0-inch screens either side of the dashboard. They improve aerodynamics, give much better visibility and generate less annoying wind noise.
Three more screens sit between them, creating a full-width digital dashboard. The two 12.3-inch LCD screens form a dual interface, so passengers can set the sat nav, then ‘swipe’ it over to the driver and carry on masterminding music. Smartphone mirroring is standard, for both Android and Apple devices. There’s built-in Wi-Fi too.
The MyHonda+ smartphone app allows you to monitor charging remotely (and to let you check that you really have locked your Honda e). You can even speak to your Honda e, via the built-in AI Honda Personal Assistant. Simply say ‘OK Honda’, and your car is at your command.
Honda Sensing safety tech is standard. The suite of sensors provide ‘always on’ assistance, continuously watching out for you and your passengers.
leading the way for a greener future
What’s the best way a car can help tackle city centre emissions? By not emitting any emissions at all. The Honda e doesn’t take a step-by-step approach to air quality. It goes all in to do its bit. Everyone benefits from the environmental efficiency of the Honda e.
Electric car technology is simple, so the Honda e will need less servicing. It consumes less of the planet’s resources, saving them for future generations. The Honda e even generates less harmful brake dust, because the brakes are used less often.
Positioned low beneath the Honda e’s floor is a 35.5 kWh lithium ion battery, similar to those used in mobile phones. It is fully recyclable and is expected to have a long life. It is ready to be plugged into public fastchargers, which will charge it up to 80% capacity in just 30 minutes.
It is eco in other ways, too. Electric cars could cost a third less per mile to own than a regular petrol or diesel. Recharging the battery from empty to full costs less than £4, meaning the Honda e has a reduced impact on your finances as well as the planet.

Designed with an urban environment in mind, the Honda e will travel for over 135 miles on a single charge. Recharging it is as simple as plugging in a kettle. And fast-charge compatibility comes as standard, so you will soon be on your way again.
Performance is electrifying. Nothing is more immediate than an instant-react electric motor. As soon as you press the accelerator of the Honda e, it responds – fast. And in silence.
You can choose to recuperate energy when you lift the pedal – which has the happy side-effect of slowing the car without pressing the brakes. Top up your batteries for free: incredibly satisfying.
Engineered for a smooth and fun driving experience, its low centre of gravity aids flat cornering. Fully independent suspension soaks up bumps without crashes or bangs. And the responsive drive gives the sophisticated feel of a thoroughly modern and unique car.
Honda’s engineers were even able to design special steering with a turning circle of just 4.3 metres. This means the Honda e can U-turn virtually within its own length. It’s as agile as a London cab.
