An electric car, a better car
The Honda e is our all-new, all-electric urban vehicle.
It is a car born to be electric, optimised from the designer’s first sketch as a zero-compromise, zero-emission vehicle. There are no emissions because there is no engine. Nor a fuel tank. You need never visit a filling station ever again. The future is electric, and the future for Honda is now here.
Doesn’t look like any other car on the road, does it? That’s because it’s not like any other car.
We could have made things easy for ourselves. We could have converted a normal car into an electric. But that’s imperfect. We wanted to achieve perfection.
The Honda e is the electric car urbanites have been waiting for. It’s small and perfectly formed. But because it’s been designed around the batteries, it’s not short on space inside. A high-tech car needs a high-tech interior, and we’ve given it one.
It’s a car that drives unlike any other too, embracing its 21st century propulsion with an experience that will amaze you. Cars of the future will be very different to what’s gone before. The Honda e is one you can buy today.
But don’t just take our word for it. Read below to find out what leading car magazines have to say about the Honda e.

Function above all else
The Honda e is minimalism at its most magnificent. Its lines are simple. Not a single one is unnecessary. Fussy detailing is out, full stop. That’s because the Honda e’s stand-out shape, both retro yet futuristic, doesn’t need fripperies.
Simple is hard to do, though. Peer more closely and you’ll see the attention to detail. Our designers have obsessed on the minutiae. Look at the symmetrical 'eye-like' LED headlights, the matching rear lights. Front door handles? Exposed only when needed. Safety sensors? All hidden behind the front black panel.
“It’s a clean car,” says the leader of the Honda e project, Kohei Hitomi. “It should have a clean design to match.”
Inside, the functional cabin is modern and lounge-like, with an open plan feel. The seat upholstery reminds you of sofas. LED downlighters are built into the roof.
The Honda e is proud to be electric. Easily accessible in the middle of the bonnet is its gloss black charging port. When connected, LED indicators glow with the car’s charge status. You can see at a glance if it’s charged up and ready to drive away. Simply perfect.
making city life easy
The Honda e is a technological masterpiece. But not simply in its futuristic all-electric drive. We have fundamentally updated all other aspects as well, letting them escape the 20th century.
The high-tech Honda e doesn’t have any door mirrors. Instead, it has cameras, beaming high-resolution video feeds into 6.0-inch screens either side of the dashboard. Better for safety, for aerodynamics and for lowering wind noise. Brilliant for wowing your friends.
Three more screens sit between them, including dual 12.3-inch LCD touchscreens. This is a dual interface, so passengers can set the sat nav, then ‘swipe’ it over to the driver’s side and carry on compiling playlists. Smartphone mirroring is standard for both Android and Apple devices.
The MyHonda+ smartphone app allows you to monitor charging remotely (and to let you check that you really have locked your Honda e). You can even speak to your Honda e via the built-in AI Honda Personal Assistant. Simply say ‘OK Honda’, and your car is at your command.
On a long road trip? Share your Honda e’s built-in Wi-Fi so that your passengers can stream movies or catch up on emails while the world silently glides by.
leading the way for a greener future
What’s the best way a car can help tackle city centre emissions? By not emitting any emissions whatsoever. The Honda e doesn’t take a step-by-step approach to air quality. It goes all in to do its bit. Call it the urban vehicle with zero impact on urban air.
Electric car technology is simple, so the Honda e will need less servicing. Great news for the environment – it doesn’t ever need fresh engine oil, for example, because there isn’t one. The Honda e will even generate less harmful brake dust, because the brakes are used less often.
Positioned low beneath the Honda e’s floor is a 35.5 kWh lithium ion battery, similar to those used in smartphones. It is fully recyclable and is expected to have a long life. It is ready to be plugged into public fastchargers, which will charge it to 80% capacity in up to 30 minutes.
What’s good for the environment is also good for your wallet. Electric cars could cost a third less per mile to own than a regular petrol or diesel. Recharging the battery from empty to full costs less than £4 – compare that to your last tankful of fuel.
looks great on the outside. Even better inside
There’s a reason why people say performance is electric. Because nothing is more immediate than an instant-react electric motor. As soon as you press the accelerator of the Honda e, it responds – fast.
You don’t have to worry about gears, either. Simply press and go. You can choose to recuperate energy when you lift the pedal – which has the happy side-effect of slowing the car without pressing the brakes. Top up your batteries for free – what’s more satisfying than that?
The Honda e is a car designed for the city. Its low centre of gravity aids flat cornering. Fully independent suspension soaks up bumps without crashes or bangs. And as drive is sent to the rear wheels, it has amazing traction away from the traffic lights.
It’s silent as well. More like a luxury car. Which comes into its own when you charge away from the city limits.
difficult is worth doing
The Honda e is a car so futuristic, it’s almost hard to believe it’s coming to a showroom near you soon. But suddenly, the future is going to seem very real indeed, courtesy of this ingenious masterpiece.
Honda’s designers and engineers chose not to follow the form book. Going electric was an opportunity to do something very different and genuinely all-new, and they embraced it.
The Honda e embodies our human-centric design approach. It is a fully functional electric car. But it is also a beautifully crafted one, with a relaxing interior more like a living room.
Those lucky enough to have had an early taste of the Honda e report great things. It’s an electric vehicle unlike anything else out there, they say, and all the better for it. Hitomi-san wanted to make something unique. It looks like he has achieved his wish.
Our founder Soichiro Honda believed in the power of dreams. Create your own vision of the future, don’t follow what’s gone before. The Honda e is an urban EV that genuinely lives up to this idea. It is a genuine Honda for the future, ready for today.
