Earlier this year we took a trip to wales to visit Gareth Wyn Jones on his family farm; where he showed us what life is really like in the great Welsh outdoors. Out in the Carneddau Mountains of Snowdonia, Gareth Wyn Jones considers farming his ‘way of life’.

For over 370 years, his family have been farming lamb and beef in Tyn Llwyfan, Llanfairfechan. But despite the magnificent views that come as a perk of the job, living and working on the rough landscape also comes with its challenges.

Luckily, Gareth has some tricks up his sleeve – his ‘fantastic machinery’ from Honda to help him take on each and every day.

Gareth is a man on a mission to bridge the gap between towns and the countryside.

On top of his very busy hill farmer schedule, he is a passionate spokesman for the Welsh food industry, as well as a popular TV personality.

He believes in educating the public about eco farming practices, to help them make their own decisions about sustainable food and the environment. To make his views heard, Gareth has appeared regularly on national television including the BBC’s ‘Countryfile’, BAFTA nominated ‘The Hill Farm’, ‘Farmer and the Food Chain’ and ‘The Milkman’.

For day-to-day management, Gareth reaches for his trusty ATV. One of his favourite duties on the farm is looking after the Carneddau Mountain Ponies – a rare native breed that have been roaming these hills since Celtic times. These beautiful creatures are an important part of the region’s ecology and Gareth uses his TRX520 to find them, and ensure they are in good health.

‘I feel very fortunate to be one of the families that protects and looks after these ponies on these mountains.’
