Get the Mow How

With Laura Tobin

With the mixed weather continuing, it may be a little difficult deciding what to wear in the morning – but the good news is our outdoor spaces are beginning to flourish.

If you’ve joined us before, you’ll be familiar with the lovely Laura Tobin, one of the nation’s favourite TV Broadcast Meteorologists, who teamed up with Honda this year to help our customers get to grips with their gardening, and the British weather.

In today's episode, Laura will be joined by one half of the ‘Two Dirty Boys’ in Part Four of ‘Get The Mow How’.

Paul Anderton and his pal Robin Daly run an allotment on one of East London’s busiest roads. In 2019, they started work on the overgrown, neglected plot and honestly documented their journey on social media. All the wins and losses, ups and downs to inspire green fingers across the country.

The ‘Two Dirty Boys’ are passionate about plants and have even published a book called ‘Regrown: How to Grow Fruit Herbs and Vegetables from Kitchen Scraps’, which became an Amazon’s No.1 Best Seller in three categories, and received media coverage in Living Etc. magazine, The Independent, The Daily Mail, The Spectator and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch.

Today’s episode will be packed with tips and tricks from Paul, the story of how they transformed their allotment… and why they had a lot of fun with a few pieces of equipment from the Honda cordless range.

When Paul and Robin moved to their new allotment plot, they were faced with no power and a lot of weeds. Using the Honda HHH Cordless Hedgetrimmer, HHB 36 AXB, HHT 36 AXB Brushcutter and Izy On Lawnmower, they ‘made a real mess’ and then transformed the space.

Paul explains how having interchangeable, universal batteries on the cordless products also made tackling the job a lot easier.

During the pandemic, the gardening duo couldn’t get to their allotment and so started growing plants and produce using kitchen scraps, which ultimately led to their book.

A third of all food produced is never consumed, which equates to 10% of Greenhouse gas emissions – 4x greater than the impact from flying. Paul and Robin feel strongly about food waste and believe there is a better way. Their book is a simple, step-by-step approach teaching you how to grow your cuttings, germinate dormant seeds and give new life to scraps which would otherwise end up in the bin.

At the end of the episode, we hear the ‘million dollar question’ –  what will the weather be like for the rest of summer? According to Laura’s expertise, we’re thankfully in for a lot of sunshine, so get your Honda power tools at the ready, it’s going to be a scorcher!

Keep an eye out for the second book from ‘Two Dirty Boys’ launching in April 2022, and be sure to follow @hondaukpower for the fifth and final episode of ‘Get the Mow How’.
