THE VOYAGE

For Guy Grieve, the ocean is not only an integral part of his home and upbringing; it is also a vital part of his livelihood.

Earlier this year, we teamed up with outdoorsman and wilderness expert Guy Grieve, as he embarked on a voyage around the remote Hebridean Islands.

Guy currently lives in the Moorfoot Hills on the Scottish mainland with his two sons, Oscar and Luke. For the last 11 years, Guy has worked as a scallop diver around the Isle of Munn, running The Ethical Shellfish Company together with his former wife Juliet.

Guy and Juliet started The Ethical Shellfish Company with an aim to put ethics at the centre of its priorities.  A company that would never sell seafood that came at the cost of the marine environment.

Diving for scallops is one of the most sustainable methods around, and sustainability is at the core of their ethos. Each scallop is picked up by hand, ensuring no damage is made to the surrounding marine habitat.

As the company grew, they expanded out from only delivering to chefs in Edinburgh and Glasgow, to supplying some of the top chefs throughout the whole of the UK.

They now work with a variety of Michelin star chefs who share the same values and are not prepared to take shortcuts when it comes to quality and provenance.

Join Guy and his family on their adventure as they navigate the spectacular and sometimes challenging landscape of the Hebridean Islands, in our video below.

The Voyage

Taking to the seas in a Highfield Sport 800 and a BF250, Guy, Oscar and Luke discover more about the Isle of Mull, Iona, the Garvellach Islands and the surrounding North Atlantic Ocean. Mussel and Halibut farmers, a world champion Scottish piper, and whisky blenders are just a few of the people they encounter as they discover the communities who live on these islands both separated and connected by the sea.
