Miimo: Why Use a Robotic Lawnmower?
It is a peculiarly English love affair. The weekend comes, the sun is (hopefully) shining, the leaves of the trees rustle faintly on the breeze and the birds sing their merry song – but above all this there is another noise, the whirr of the lawn mower.
The British love their lawns. But caring for a lawn calls for commitment. There is feeding for the seasons, weeding through the year, trimming of border edges and of course, the most time-consuming chore of all, mowing the lawn.
If you’re one of the nation’s green-fingered friends and this sounds familiar, the good news - it doesn’t have to be like that. The Honda Miimo robotic smart mower range can take care of cutting the grass for you whether your lawn is large or small.
Whether you want to watch it at work during the day, and perhaps show it off to the neighbours, or prefer to let it get on with the job at night, so you wake to the view of a freshly cut lawn, the Miimo mowers are part of the new generation of robotic lawn mowers that make managing a garden that bit easier.
For those pondering the switch from a petrol-powered or electric mower to a robotic mower, here are the answers to the questions gardeners may have.
A beautiful garden – and more time to enjoy it
Gardeners work hard to bring the best out of their garden. Having a robotic lawn mower allows more time for doing the most important jobs.
Whether that’s introducing a new bed to the garden, rearranging an existing one, trimming hedges or training a climber, like wisteria, gardeners can typically save themselves on average an hour a week by leaving a Honda Miimo to take care of things. And, if you just want to take it easy, light the barbeque and laze the day away in a deckchair – that’s fine too.
You can check which model from the Miimo range will suit your size of garden, using our interactive lawn planner.
Miimo is the smartest way to achieve the perfect lawn - and to keep it that way every, all year round. It begins by mapping your entire lawn, then calculating its size before creating a bespoke mowing calendar.
How Miimo technology works
Following a simple, step-by-step installation process, Honda’s range of Miimo robotic lawn
mowers are fully autonomous. All you have to do is lay down accompanying perimeter wire,
flush with boundary and border areas, or around large obstacles such as tree trunks,
then choose how you’d prefer Miimo to cut your grass.

Set the variable cutting height (between 20mm and 60mm dependant on model) manually, or on the Miimo 3000, HRM40 Live and HRM70 Live, you can use a smartphone app – meaning this clever box of tricks takes care of everything. Our HRM3000 also allows for the cutting height to be set using electronic adjustment.
In the spring and summer, it will cut the grass more frequently, to manage the seasons with more vigorous growth. Once it has completed a cut, it automatically returns itself to its docking station, recharging the battery ready for its next run.
At the heart of each unit is a long-lasting lithium-ion battery. It offers an impressive operating time of 40 minutes or more, and a full charge takes from 30 minutes.
Best of all, there’s no need to lift a finger. Miimo smart mowers know when the battery is in need of a charge and will return to their docking station, where in no time at all they’ll be ready to spring into action again. And if you use a renewables-based energy supplier, it’s emissions-free, too.
Shh! Can you hear something?
With no combustion engine, the Miimo range of electric mowers won’t interrupt the birdsong. A petrol-powered lawn mower, such as the Honda Izy, emits 94 decibels, whereas the Miimo models emit between 59 and 62 decibels, depending on the version.
The smarter smart mower
You get to decide when the Miimo gets to work. Programme the times you’d like it to operate and it will take care of making your lawn look lush.
In addition to sensing any boundary wires beneath it, the Miimo range features built-in 360-degree bump sensors, so if a garden gnome or cricket bat lies in its path, it will detect them and change course.
It’s also waterproof, and the clever engineers that developed it have perfected all-terrain wheels that grip on slippery surfaces. It even has the intelligence to correct itself should a wheel drop into a recess, such as a rabbit hole.
And to prevent tampering, when lifted during operation the unit automatically stops running and enters a secure mode that requires a unique pin code to restart it.
No more trimmings waste
The Miimo has a built-in micro-mulching function. It means that it is able to reduce trimmings to a fine size and then distribute these on your lawn, providing valuable nutrients, including nitrogen, to make your green space the envy of friends and family.
It also means there’s no need to lug collection boxes about or figure out how you’ll dispose of piles of cuttings – which can quickly overwhelm even the most committed composter.
Small but mighty
The Small Miimo range is the smartest way to achieve the perfect lawn - and to keep it that way every, all year round. It begins by mapping your entire lawn, then calculating its size before creating a bespoke mowing calendar.
Designed for smaller gardens of up to 400 square metres, the HRM40 features several new intelligent features for enhanced convenience, usability and connectivity. The ‘live’ version offers full smartphone connectivity through an app, voice control via Alexa and adapts automatically to weather conditions. Installing all-new Miimo couldn’t be easier, with a four-step process compared to nine steps for a typical competitor model. Honda’s ‘Map & Mow’ technology eliminates the need for the customer to set mowing start points and home position, or to set its cutting schedule. The docking station is also very simple to install, with the power cable conveniently encased in a tube and out of the way.
Thanks to its Smart Timer, it will allow for changes in the weather and the speed at which your grass grows - and even stay in its base during heavy rain. For those places which Small Miimo hasn’t been able to reach, Place and Mow allows you to cut small sections with ease and with the ability to cut in a logical pattern, Small Miimo can cut stripes into your lawn quickly and effectively.
The brand new HRM70 features all the existing specifications of the HRM40 with the ability to cut up 700 square metres. As well as featuring an extended power cable allowing for up to 12m between the socket and the dock, high efficiency brushless motors, selectable border cutting and an easy to service battery.
