Honda e:PROGRESS

Optimize the home charging of your Honda

To minimise the impact of home charging, e:PROGRESS, Honda’s intelligent home charging service helps keep the cost of home charging to a minimum.

An app-based system which connects your Honda with your electricity tariff and home charging solution. When you plug in, e:PROGRESS will automatically schedule charging for when the price of electricity, and the amount of carbon on the grid are at their lowest.

The result? Savings of up to £2,034* off your annual electric bill.

How does e:PROGRESS work?

e:PROGRESS connects with your Honda electric, or plug-in vehicle, electricity tariff, and home charging solution.

Once signed in, input your usual departure time, desired minimum and maximum charge levels, and select an optimisation mode to suit your weekly schedule.

Using your preferences, e:PROGRESS will automatically create an intelligent charging plan that saves you money and carbon, completing charging for your time of departure. Otherwise, the app will not need your attention. Whenever you plug in to charge, e:PROGRESS will automatically generate your intelligent charging schedule.

What is intelligent charging

Charging an electric or plug-in vehicle at times when the overall electricity demand is lower, such as when there is more renewable energy on the grid or overnight. This is beneficial for both you and the environment. However, anyone can simply plug-in to charge, so what is it that makes it intelligent?

e:PROGRESS generates your Intelligent Charging plan, scheduling your charging for the cheapest and greenest times. So, by connecting your car and tariff, you can reduce the cost of charging your Honda.

Honda's Triple Action to ZERO

Honda contributes to the realisation of a sustainable society by striving to eliminate environmental impact for the benefit of all. With the Triple Action to ZERO, Honda integrates three elements; carbon neutrality, clean energy, and resource circulation, into one concept.

Honda E progress
e:PROGRESS harnesses industry partnerships and AI to provide intelligent charging for Honda owners in the UK. Available on any tariff, smart scheduling makes responsible use of the energy infrastructure, to charge your car based on when you use it, how much charge you need and when energy is at its cheapest.

Reduced grid congestion

Intelligent charging plays a key role in addressing the issue of grid congestion. Grid congestion is when energy demand is nearing the grid's maximum capacity, causing electricity prices to go up. The grid is under pressure to support the growing energy demand from technologies such as electric vehicle charging.

Currently, energy generators and consumers are paid to optimise their output in the congested region. Long-term solutions such as energy storage are also an option, but what can be done on an individual level?

By using e:PROGRESS, charging is scheduled to avoid the busier times on the grid. Therefore, helping you support a balanced grid and reduce the cost of your energy.

Energy prices are lower when there is a higher proportion of renewable energy available on the grid. So when e:PROGRESS schedules for cheaper charging, you use more renewable energy.

Home charging freedom

Whilst saving money and Carbon are both important features, we understand that certain daily routine requirements will come first. Features within the app ensure you are not restricted by the charging of your vehicle.

Setting a comfort zone

e:PROGRESS allows you to set and adjust your minimum and maximum charge levels.

Your charging plan will charge immediately to this level before intelligent charging commences where price and carbon are considered. Providing peace of mind that if an unexpected change of plans occurs, your Honda will have enough power ready for you.

Research suggests that maintaining a charge level between 20% and 80% can support battery health and longevity. The target level of charge feature stops your charging schedules from exceeding your pre-set level, such as 80%.

Changes to your normal routine

So, e:PROGRESS automatically creates charging plans based on the departure times you select for the week. Although, as we all know, plans can change. If they do, will your car be ready for your new departure time?

Yes. You can ensure your car will be ready for your new departure time in two ways. If charging has not yet commenced, you can set a new, one-time departure time to ensure your vehicle is ready to go.

Alternatively, use the ‘Charge Now’ feature to override any schedule, this will immediately start charging your vehicle until full. Your pre-set weekly departure times will not be affected.

Electricity Tariffs

The tariff you use will impact the amount of savings you can receive with e:PROGRESS. For example, switching to either a dynamic tariff with a different price every 30 minutes, or a dual-rate tariff with a cheaper period overnight, will maximise your potential savings. With a dynamic tariff, you can even benefit from negative pricing. In 2023, there were 214 hours of negative pricing, meaning you can be paid to charge your car.

If you don’t switch, you can still use e:PROGRESS. If you are on a standard variable or fixed rate tariff, you will pay the same price throughout the day. Whilst there are no cost savings to be made, e:PROGRESS enables you to charge when Carbon is at its lowest. You can even connect your solar panels to charge during the sunniest hours, further reducing your Carbon output.

Using e:PROGRESS to charge from your solar panels.

With e:PROGRESS charging can be optimised further by integrating your solar panel system.

The amount of electricity your solar panels produce will be accounted for in your charging plan. Therefore, when it is sunny, electricity will be drawn from your solar panels, rather than from the grid. This means lower costs and utilisation of your renewable electricity source. More importantly, your dependency on the grid is reduced.

Whilst making the change to an electric vehicle can reduce the running costs of driving, home charging is likely to increase your electricity bill. e:PROGRESS is here to help you keep the costs of home charging to a minimum, all whilst reducing your carbon footprint.
